Dr Bling Bling
Most privacy policies are long because the company collects a lot and has to list it. This one is short for the opposite reason.
Dr Bling Bling has no account, no login and no server of ours behind it. Your statements are opened, read and stored on your iPhone. They are not uploaded, not copied to us, and not shared with anyone.
The app contains no analytics, no advertising identifiers and no third-party tracking software of any kind. Nobody here can see whether you installed it, opened it, or whether it worked.
A statement you add is read on the device, and the transactions it contains are stored in the app's own database on that device. The original file is not kept.
The app does not sync or upload that database anywhere. Like every app's data, it is included in your iPhone's own backup, to iCloud or to a computer, if you have one switched on. That backup is between you and Apple, and Apple's terms apply to it. We have no access to it.
To work out what a payment was, the app uses a list of known merchants, rules you have given it, and the shape of the transaction. When those cannot answer, it asks Apple's on-device language model, which runs on the iPhone itself. Nothing about your transactions is sent off the device to do it.
The app asks for the camera only when you choose to scan a paper statement, and for your photo library only when you choose to pick a picture of one. It uses neither for anything else, and it does not ask on first launch.
The app is free to use, and a one-time purchase unlocks everything. The payment is made to Apple, through your Apple Account, and Apple keeps the record of it. We are told that a sale happened, and in which country, but not who made it, and the app sends us nothing about it.
If you allow it, the app sends one notification a month with the findings from the month just ended. It is asked for once, after a statement has been imported successfully, and it can be switched off in Settings. There is never a second kind of notification.
The website counts how many people visit, using a self-hosted copy of Umami. It sets no cookies, stores no personal data and does not follow you anywhere. It records aggregate figures such as how many people opened a page and roughly where in the world they were.
Before the app reached the App Store, the website had a waiting list for one message on the day it came out. The list is closed. Anybody who was on it gets that one message, and their address is deleted straight after it. Nothing from it is kept, sold or shared.
If you have a question about it, write to support@drblingbling.com.
That is the website. It is a separate thing from the app, and the app reports nothing, to us or to anybody.
The app is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anybody, of any age.
If this ever changes, the date at the bottom of this page changes with it, and anything that would newly collect data about you will be said plainly rather than added quietly.
