Dr Bling Bling
Most lists of the best budget apps are written for people in their thirties saving for a house. If you are living on a pension, the question is a different one.
Budget apps are built around goals. Pay off the car, save for a deposit, keep a streak going. On a fixed income the question is usually simpler. Does what comes in cover what goes out, and is anything creeping up?
This is our app, so read the following accordingly, and then check it yourself. It costs nothing to try.
It follows your iPhone's text size and works with VoiceOver, and it uses bars with the figure written beside them rather than colored rings. The monthly check-up, part of the one-time purchase, sends one notification a month, and only if you allow it. It never tells you that you spent too much. It has no adverts and sells no financial products, and it never asks for your bank password, because it never talks to your bank.
The app shows steps for getting a statement that work at most banks, and it can write a message asking a family member to help. With Family Sharing, a son or daughter can buy it for you.
It runs on iPhone only, so if you use an Android phone or an iPad it will not help. You have to add a statement yourself, about once a month. And a first import does ask some questions, usually for ten minutes or so.
Free to download, and every way of adding a statement is free. No bank login, no account, no subscription.
Several have free versions. Dr Bling Bling is free to use, and shows your last three months without paying.
Yes. Everything stays on the phone it was set up on, so a family member can help with the first statement there, and they will not be able to see your figures afterwards from anywhere else.
